This is an article we were debating on whether we should publish.  The reality is that if our potential clients learn how to do this, why would they need us?  But the more we thought about it, the more we realized that this is the easy stuff.  Once you follow these steps, we can help take you to the next level.  We can turn a positive online marketing experience into a centerpiece of all your business.

So we’re going to lay out a step-by-step tutorial that should take no more than 4 hours to complete and no more than $75 (assuming you already have a hosting account and domain name).  If you follow these steps, you will have:

  • A better looking site than you do today
  • Many more targeted visitors due to some simple on-site search engine optimization
  • A easy-to-use interface to add and edit new content

The Steps to Recreate Your Site

  1. Download Wordpress from Wordpress.org
  2. Upload the download to your website
  3. Follow the set-up instructions to install Wordpress
  4. Download All in One SEO Wordpress plugin
  5. Upload the download to your website (there will be instructions how to do this in the download)
  6. Activate the plugin (also in the instructions)
  7. Go to Options->Permalinks and type "/%postname%/" in the textbox on the page
  8. Go to TemplateMonster.com and filter "Products" on "WordPress Themes"
  9. Find a template that matches your business.  Don’t worry if it’s not perfect.  That’s part of the maximizing process once you complete all these steps
  10. Pay $75 and buy the template
  11. Upload your new template to your website.  WordPress provides you instructions how to setup the new theme
  12. Create your pages.  If you already have a website, they should be written already for you.  Just copy the content and create the pages
  13. When you create the pages, you will see text boxes for title, description, and keywords.  Make sure they are keyword relevant.  For example, if you’re a chiropractor in Odessa, TX, the title would be "Odessa Chiropractor".  Just think of what the visitor would be looking for.
  14. Set-up Google Analytics on the new website by adding the tracking code to the footer of the website.\
  15. Submit your website to all the local directories listed in this website

All Done, Now What?

Honestly?  Not much.  Once you completed the steps above (successfully), you’re in pretty good shape.

  • Most of the on-site optimization is already taken care of for you, which is 90% of the work.
  • You submitted to a lot of free directories so the search engines now now you exist.  So you’re building up your off-site optimization

The rest is more intuitive and not as easy to write down in steps.

  • Look up keywords and verify that you have the right keywords for people to find you
  • Ensure that you have your website has a goal and that everything is centered around driving towards that goal
  • Tweak the design.  You might want something totally different now that you have your website set up and that’s no problem.  That’s the beauty of WordPress to run your website.  You can switch in new designs without skipping a beat.  The content is stored in a database so it just automatically puts it in your new design.  And you can switch back just as easily.

Once the website is running on all cylinders, start driving traffic to the website.  Set up Pay-Per-Click campaigns, run offline marketing campaigns to send visitors to your website.

The possibilities are endless….
