As reported at Clickz.com, Local Search is Set for a Boom.  The article cited a keynote address by the Internet media and marketing, managing director for Piper Jaffrey who had some interesting points:

  • Said that local search was only second to e-mail in importance on the web - “local search is the second most popular activity other than e-mail. You will have more and more focus on local search, whether it’s information or product searches that are happening….The adoption of local search by both local and search advertisers will see an increase.”
  • He said that the mapping and satellite will become an integral part of local search marketing.
  • Predicted that Global online ad spending to increase to $81 Billion by 2011.  (it’s only about $11 billion right now)
