The Internet and your business – Why you should be paying attention…

There are several factors converging simultaneously that will directly impact your income and financial security in the next few years.

The first is Internet access. It has grown exponentially and presently 88% of the nation’s households have Internet access. Chances are, in your market it’s closer to 95%. The bottom line is nearly 100% of the people in your community that will need your services are online.

The second is behavior. Thanks to search engines such as Google, consumers are flocking to the Internet to research everything –vacation planning, mortgage rates, medical information, stock prices, movie reviews, homework assignments – the list goes on and on.

Online searching is nothing new. Yahoo® recently surpassed its 10 year anniversary and even the most technologically averse people you know probably have an e-mail address and know what someone is talking about when they say “I’ll just “google it”. Google®, Yahoo! ® and MSN® record almost 5 billion Searches per month. What most people don’t know is that the Internet is still growing rapidly and it’s only going to intensify as search engines expand their reach.

Part of the reason for the increasing growth is the emerging boom in “Local Search”. Most Internet users have booked a flight on the web, gotten their daily dose of national news and read a movie review. Most of this was driven by major web sites and big businesses like Amazon.com®, CNN.com®, and ESPN.com®. Small businesses didn’t need to be as concerned with attracting new customers through the web because they are often local and their customers were still finding them through traditional means.

The difference now is that people are using the Internet to not just get the movie review but to also find out where it’s playing locally and at what time. Instead of going to the Yellow Pages to find a plumber or dentist, they are using the Internet to find them. Instead of waiting for Welcome Wagon to find a dry cleaner when they move, they are finding these businesses themselves, quickly and easily.

Within the past 2 years, the major search engines have added the ability to search locally. If you just type a zip code and a service like “carpet cleaner”, the search engines will rank and display all the local carpet cleaners.

In ever increasing numbers – the Internet is the first stop people make when they are looking for a service provider or professional business. And local search traffic — where people are checking out what is available locally — is growing exponentially. There are roughly 1 billion local searches every month. Those are local people searching for local busineses. That number already equals the number of Yellow Page referrals generated each month, and will continue to grow by at least 30% in the near future.

We are entering the dawn of a new era – where the Internet has empowered people to become better educated and informed consumers.

From the comfort of home, anyone can instantly access specific information to acquire the knowledge they need to guide them in their comparison research and shopping.

At the same time, they are spared from feeling pressured and uncomfortable in traditional face to face selling environments.

Stop for a moment and consider the investment you’ve made in your “physical business”. From the location you chose — to the design and layout of your office — to the caliber of your staff — you’ve devoted a huge amount of time, money, and effort to create a professional, friendly and caring environment to enhance the client experience. The resources you’ve committed in these areas also play a role in your ability to attract new clients.

Now consider the following…

Your website – will increasingly become the first encounter a prospective client has with your business.

It will even affect how referrals are handled. No longer will consumers blindly follow the recommendation of a another company or even a friend or relative. Quite frequently, many of them will want to “check you out” online before moving ahead.

There is another factor. It is quite impractical – for a prospective client to visit a dozen businesss before making a decision – yet they can easily visit you and all your competitors online – in just minutes.

So now more than ever – your web strategy (or lack of one) could have boom or bust impact on your income and financial security.

Today – most small business owners have websites – but get very few if any new customers from their online presence. That’s beginning to change

The beginning of the boom…

Stories are popping up from coast to coast. Local businesses and professional businesss with formerly stagnant revenues that are suddenly are taking off. Experiencing explosive growth. Watching their incomes skyrocket.

New York City moving and storage company that now gets

90% of its business from the Internet.

Virginia Roofing Company owner cancels all its other advertising because his website is over delivering new leads.

Silicon Valley dentist getting a 20 to 1 return on his

Internet marketing investment.

Dallas Contractor who can’t keep up with the

new business he is getting online.

Chicago carpet retailer who is now “raking it in” and has

stopped all other forms of marketing.

What do all these “success stories” have in common?

They’ve cracked the code. Engineered an online marketing strategy that consistently delivers a steady stream of new business. Discovered how to monopolize the local search market in their community.

Finally revealed… the strategy you must build into your web site if you want to Convert your website into a client recruiting machine.

The Next Big Thing

The killer app – what all these successful small businesses are using – is a form of advertising on search engines called “Pay-Per-Click” (PPC). With this system, you pay only when a person you want to come to your site clicks on one of your ads.

As you can see from the picture below, the sponsored ads (in the red boxes), show to the top and right of the regular results. Your ads are only shown when someone types in keyword(s) that you specify.

This advertising model has newspapers and the yellow page publishers running scared. For several reasons.

  1. You only pay for results (about $1 - $2 per visitor depending on your industry). Your ad may show 1000 times but you only pay when someone clicks on it and goes to your web site.
  2. You can specify the geography where you want your ads to appear. For local businesses, this is often a 10 mile radius from your office This means no wasted circulation.
  3. You choose how many site visitors you want per month. By setting a budget limit, you determine how many new visitors (which translates into new clients) you want to come to your web site. It’s almost like a new client faucet which you can activate on demand.
  4. The cost are much lower. Because Local Search is a burgeoning market and because there are not a lot of the physical costs involved with paper, postage, etc. of more traditional marketing, the average Cost Per Lead is much cheaper for Online Marketing.

Pay per click is the 800 pound gorilla fueling the meteoric growth behind the local business success stories that are cropping up from coast to coast.

The lucky few who have figured out and mastered PPC are enjoying spectacular growth and skyrocketing incomes. The beginning of this letter talked about the emerging boom in local search. (Keep reading at the end of this report for some magazine articles covering this impending explosion.)

Here’s why these businesses are having so much success with local search advertising

The financial mathematics of local online search marketing will startle you…

In a typical suburban or metropolitan area there are hundreds of people searching for your service in any given month.

Do the math!!!! Hundreds of people per month searching online for your business times $500-$1,000 (average lifetime client value) times 12 months per year =

Hundreds of thousands of dollars of future revenue.

If you can learn how to get a big share of the web traffic goldmine – you can grow your business and profits to any level you choose.

A simple formula. Yet – it’s become the “behind the scenes success story” that’s powered the rapid growth of small businesses across the country. These “early adopters” have put together all the pieces to convert their websites into new customer magnets. And right now…

You are standing at the crossroads and have three choices…

You can do nothing. Ignore all the warning signs and hope for the best.

You can do it yourself. Scramble to administer and track your pay per click (PPC) campaigns. Manage everything yourself.

You can have someone else do it. Someone who knows the ins and outs of Pay-Per-Click. They know how to generate inexpensive keywords. They know how to target local searchers in your area. They know which ads will work and which ones won’t.

The choice is yours…
